The Dudson Museum in Hanley is celebrating the opening of a brand-new exhibition with a Spring Makers Fair, showcasing the wonders of the Dudson Museum and the amazing talents of some of the best local makers and unique creators from across the city.
The Dudson Museum is one of the few remaining original bottle ovens in the Potteries and takes pride of place in the heart of the Dudson Centre. It is home to the exquisite Dudson Collection; hundreds of beautiful items spanning three centuries of local heritage.
On Saturday 25th March, The Dudson Centre will be open to all for a lovely day of museum tours, activities, and browsing stalls full of beautiful handmade items from 15 extremely talented local artists and unique makers, especially selected for this exciting event.
The Spring Makers Fair is the perfect day for a showcase and following a major refurbishment, the Dudson Museum will be launching its brand new ‘Broken and Beautiful’ exhibition. The exhibition will be displaying previously unseen items from the stunning Dudson ceramics collection hand-selected by the Museum’s Curator, together with examples of work by BTEC Art and Design students from Newcastle-under-Lyme College.
Alongside the opening of the new exhibition, the Dudson Centre will be full of stalls catering for all tastes and price ranges including work from textile, resin, and mixed-media artists; illustrators; and local potters. There will also be a selection of wooden bird feeders, insect hotels, and garden items; silver and sea glass jewellery; handmade candles and wax melts; and ‘button art.’ There’s even a very gifted face painter and she’s bringing her glitter bar! There really is something for everyone, no matter their tastes or age.
Open from 10:00 am, the Spring Makers Fair is free to visit, and the Dudson Café will be open serving hot and cold drinks, snacks, lunches, and delicious homemade cakes. Visitors will also have the opportunity to wander around the centre and meet some of the amazing charities that provide vital support to local communities. For the little ones, Mrs Potts will be holding her hugely popular Storytime at 11:00am and 1:00pm with some exciting craft activities throughout the day as well as a dress-up corner.
The Dudson Museum’s Spring Makers Fair takes place at the Dudson Centre on Saturday 25th March from 10:00am until 3:00pm. Parking is available nearby on Hope Street, Hanley, ST1 5DD.
